cabinet meeting

Plenty of time was spent in our kitchen this weekend, preparing delicious food 'round the clock for family gatherings and fun.  We even had the chance to unwind and visit a few friends and enjoy some of their delicious home-cooked meals.  Each year I realize more and more that the kitchen really is the heart of the home.

As we all start our week, why don't we honor a few lovely light-filled kitchens?  Interesting that all the kitchens I picked happened to have white cabinets.  Huh.  I really do love color, promise.  Anyway, let's just enjoy.

I'm foaming at the mouth over this stainless shelf [above] juxtaposing the creamy distressed walls and relaxed setting.  Love its practicality and style.

And this curved banquette with that detailed nailhead design?  Pure delight.  The texture of old brick on the stove's back splash is a glorious contrast that also unifies those smoky gray doors with the light walls and ceiling.  The antlers are a great touch to add the perfect element of surprise.

What I would give to be able to grow flowers.  Anywhere.

Seeing that beautiful Jadite in the cabinet below makes me think of Eddie's beautiful collection.

I think this picture is a repeat over here.  But how about that mac daddy stove?

The ever chic all white palette.

This one gave me a little flutter.  Hmmm, I think it's the green peeking outside the cabinets and painted floors.

Shouldn't every diva have a hand-hammered zinc range hood like this one in their kitchen?  Yum.

Maybe all of these pretty images will inspire you to go cook a delicious meal…or at least sit back and enjoy while someone else cooks for you in the kitchen!

You are so right — the kitchen is the heart of every home. Whenever there’s a party everyone always ends up in the kitchen.
I love a white/neutral kitchen — so bright, airy and timeless. Beautiful images.

I don’t know what tickled me more…the banquette or the skirted hood, but I adore it all!!!!

Ahhhhh…. those white kitchens. I loved the top one, with those pale blue walls and the black & white checked curtains – thrilled me for some reason. The others were also spectacular. I am really wanting to paint my cabinets white. I am sort of in a lightening-up-allover sort of mood.
I hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day.

Things That Inspire May 11, 2009

I have a weakness for white kitchens. To me, they seem so clean and crisp, which is a great connotation when it comes to food!
I have been in the kitchen pictured in your first photo, and it is so lovely in person. One trend I have noticed recently is a kitchen and family room that spans the entire width of the house, making it one big room, with the kitchen table in the middle. I have heard that the kitchen table becomes a real gathering place when entertaining. I have a picture of a similar kitchen in my post today.

You’ve found my weakness as well, Seleta! I love, love, love the kitchen and truly believe that it is the heart of the home!

Who wouldn’t love wing chairs in the kitchen? The first kitchen is a big favorite.
The stainless steel shelving may be found at IKEA for a steal. I did a kitchen renovation and used it as the upper shelves exclusively. I don’t recommend the paper towel holder. It doesn’t work worth a flip.
Now, as far as growing flowers–well, you can grow sea oats! That’s more than most of us can claim! Loving all of the kitchens. They are great!

Your choices are great – I’m off to clean up my white cabinets so they look like the picutres. Late spring cleaning. Thanks for the inspiration.

Those images – with their bright, white cabinets just look so fresh, clean and seem to bring the outside in. When we were doing our kitchen I was adviced against white… thankfully I didn’t listen. I can’t imagine ever tiring of them.

Love the kitchens. The desk set up is great in it’s simplicity. So why do have so many more cords hanging out thr back of my desk!!?

I painted my kitchen cupboards white years and years ago, and did the walls in a ragged terra cotta. I added thick crown molding, did the ceiling in a cerulean blue to make it look like the sky. We always used to soak off the labels of bottles of wine we drank when we lived in Europe. I must have 500 of them (we had lots of friends to help us drink all that wine). I got cheapie black wood frames, spray painted them gold, pasted the labels on mat board and hung them around my doorways. I added all kinds of framed artwork to the walls. The kitchen itself is probably only about 8X10, but it’s so cozy. Everybody loves it. About every 4 years, I put a fresh coat of paint on the cupboards. I never did the insides….love the idea of the green. New project ahead!

Oh, Seleta, you are a kindred spirit! I have often written on my blog about my love of white kitchens and the desire to someday create my dream kitchen. Some of these images may make their way into my kitchen design binder!

Yes, yes, white kitchens always win! I’ve been loving that first photo of the table/island with wing chairs at it for a while…great play on the typical kitchen table.
