a roadtrip [part one]

Last week we headed out for a family road trip to Atlanta.  Can’t wait to tell you about it.  But first things first.  Since so many of you expressed interest in my last post on packing so I thought I’d do it again.  Except this time you get to look inside my suitcase.

Feel free to stop yourself from falling over in excitement.

Let’s begin.

Couldn’t pack too much, and really didn’t have the energy after packing up the kids.  So I kept it simple.  I have a bad habit of over packing, which is rather ridiculous for something as short as a weekend trip.  So I commited to changing that this time.  [sorry, didn’t include the shoes in the pics]

for the drive to atlanta: comfy with color

scarf: clearance banana republic
boyfriend cardi: jcrack outlet

for the next day playing with and chasing offspring: practical with pattern

coat: currently on sale at jcrack outlet
white oxford: last year

for date night with husband: preppy vixen

freshwater pearls: vegas
scarf: jcrack outlet
boots and skirt: last year

for the l-o-n-g ride back home: sassy with sneaks

Running out the door I ditched the scarf and added a lightweight jacket since it was pouring down rain.  Yep, it’s a cutie from Target.  If you like it, you can find it right here.  39 bucks.

What helped make the packing extra fun were some warm, buttered blueberry muffins made by husband. As you can see, a small thief was reaching for one before I could even snap the picture.

And in case you’re wondering if I had any special helpers during this process, the answer is, “I most certainly did.”

My assistants were…

One streaker.  You can see the suspect running toward the door.  Don’t judge unless you have or have had a three year old.

One five year old who was petting a cat and patiently waiting at the top of the stairs.

One upset cat who happened to be hissing at a puppy below.

And one happy puppy who was watching the naked person run back and forth.

Like I’ve said before, there’s never a dull moment around here.

To be continued…

after all that streaking, what did the momma stylist forecast for his dibs? love your outfits, they all look comfy for chasing little and big creatures, especially ones that make muffins.

  5. Debra says:

I think you did an amazing job putting together those great outfits. With four children! I get crazy with just myself-and always over-pack-always!!! Very cute steaker-I love the free innocence.

  6. CC says:

I’m cracking up! I have so been there done that!

  7. kathy says:

Your kids are adorable, and your outfits are great! It’s so good that you are documenting their growth. They will all laugh at the things they did when they were little tykes.
    Enjoy your trip to Atlanta!

  8. Jill says:

I love the houndstooth Jacket! Sweet! And I totally get the naked running kids… why they love it so much is beyond me – but they sure do!

  9. Bon says:

    Hi Seleta, super cute outfits!
One question, where’s Jcrack…or is that a nickname? I’m not American, so I am not familiar! Cheers!

  10. Elizabeth says:

More gorgeous glimpses of your sunny life! I thought of you yesterday when I blogged about my library – you wrote a yearning post recently about books in the house. Have a read if you get a silent 5 minutes (I doubt – also have puppy, children and career, so I feel your pain)- any feedback always welcome.
My kids love checking out what their American counterparts are wearing to school – very jealous as they stuck in navy and grey flannel..

  11. I love seeing your outfits! I always seem to have problems putting them together (unless I just steal a whole JCrew look)!

  12. Rachel Ridd says:

Your style is amazing! I would love for you to do a post about how to look put together on a tight budget! Please…

  13. fiona says:

  14. Amanda says:

Your family {& oh oh oh your clothes!!} is so adorable! Cannot wait to have kiddos of my own!

  15. janet says:

That was by far the funny post. My face hurts from laughing so much! You need to do those posts daily…..seriously almost wet my pants. Loved it as much as the first day of school post.My kids were naked most of their little lives. It drove my mother in law crazy. Shhh… maybe that’s why I allowed them to do it so long. Looks like my house on a typical day with the 5 boys and 2 australian shepards.
    P.S. Love the outfits too!

  16. I remember my son running out the door naked after a bath to say hi to Daddy.
I am loving the preppy vixen look!

  17. Alana says:

Naked kids and dog-I am right there with ya-just not as many kiddos! I am amazed at how you even get dressed in the morning, I’m usually in workout clothes and never actually work out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Kara Hebert says:

Super cute! Of course the outfits are adorable, but I would love to know the blue/grey (can’t tell for sure) color in your bedroom. Would you mind sharing? It’s divine! It looks like BM’s Paladian?
Kids are as cute as ever!! Have fun!!!

  22. Lauren Liess says:

I was among the many who raved about the last fashion post, and I’m doing the same for this one, too! Please continue to share your fashion sense and style!

  25. Jbhat says:

Love this! I always draw my outfits out on paper before packing.
My parents honeymooned in ATL back in the day. Hope you have a lovely trip too.
And now I need to make a trip: to my closest J Crack outlet! Who knew?!

  26. Lori says:

Seleta, I looove your style. So put together always. And the streaker is so cute. When my son was younger, he preferred not to wear clothes and found it annoying that his mother insisted. Now a good day is one where he doesn’t have to get out of his pj’s. At least we are moving in the right direction!

  27. Amy says:

You are amazing, I now see why people are tempted to have big families, you are all too cute!
Want to come up with a few fun beach outfits for Naples, FL (3 days) then onto Mexico (4 days)??
Hope ATL was a great! :)

  28. It’s so important to pack outfits rather than pieces, and yours are great! I especially love the animal print cardi and cute green jacket.

  29. Kim says:

I love your writing style and your blog! I also adore the pictures and antics of your family. You pull everything off with style! I just bought a house at the beach in the NorthEast and think of your home as I decorate.
I think the posts about outfits are becoming an addiction for me…..
P.S. I also admire that you make time for you and your husband-very important!

  30. Maggie says:

Love the outfits and esp. that scarf from BR! The blue seems to match that cardi like they were made for each other! Have a wonderful time.

  31. Nancy says:

Thanks to you, I bought the Target rain coat in black after work today. It’s so cute.
Thanks so much for your photos!!!

  32. Christine says:

Seleta, thank you so much for the outfit posts. I am clueless when it comes to fashion and what to wear. These posts have been very helpful to me! Because of you, I bought a scarf yesterday. :)
Your little streaker is absolutely precious!

  33. Louisa says:

    Hi Seleta,
I love how you were able to catch the moment with photos- streaking little boy, playing puppy, hissing cat, sweet little girl. :)
Is that a Barbour jacket? Do you know the name of it? I am seeing similar jacket online but they’re not quite the same. I love yours!!

  34. Tiffany says:

Love it!! Thank you!! Keep these up!! Much appreciated!

  35. Next trip to Atlanta, can I hire you as my personal shopper and a closet consult? I’ll keep the kiddos—you do the shopping. I love a nekked boy—have 3 of em around here.

  36. Donna says:

I have a streaker in my house too…she’s four and her father is praying she outgrows it! :) Love the outfits!
