snow bound

G oodbye beach.  Hello snow. We’re headed for our family’s first SKI TRIP to Colorado.  So excited!!!  We’ll be staying with one of my besties, Jackie and her sweet fam at their ski place in Keystone.  Remember their visit at our home this summer?

Next we’ll be visiting family in Denver for some much needed Aunt, Uncle and cousin time…they have horses so we can do some riding.  Kids are so excited they can’t stand it!  So this week’s agenda includes plenty of skiing, snow boarding, tubing, sledding, ice-skating and simply marveling at the snow.

Since it takes two planes to get there, I had to think of ways to be efficient while traveling with four kids.  One idea I came up with is was filling a “happy sack” with trinkets and tasty treats and giving it to the kids once the plane takes off. They’re very curious and excited about what’s in their bags.  In order to earn their bag, they must be well-behaved at the airport and have a good attitude with each other.  A little incentive never hurts, right?!?

These little mod cloth bags are over here.  They’re earth-friendly and super cute.  Goodbye wasterful ziploc bags! Although I must admit that I have yet to figure out how to live completely without ziplocs?

Our bags were gifts from our previous part-time Nanny, Karen, who we only had for a precious nine months after our fourth baby was born.  We still miss her and she now happily lives in Connecticut.  It’s been nearly five years and we’re amazed she still stays in touch with the kids.

P.S.  Happy Love Day!  Hope you are surrounded by sweetness today – be it people or treats.

I haven’t quite figured out how to live without ziplocks either but believe me I do my best.

We’ve been enjoying the heat here in southeast Asia – Laos and Vietnam. Some snow fun sounds great, too. Enjoy.

I’m sure you will all have a wonderful time in the snow! And, what a treat to spend some time with a dear friend. Sounds perfect! Your little ‘incentive’ bags are a great idea. I’m sure your kids will be on their best behavior to earn their bag.

Better you than me:) My brother lives in Montana but I’ll be waiting until July to visit. I hate the cold ,really. I hope you have a safe and happy trip. Can’t wait to see pics. I ,too, use little incentives AKA blackmail. I know that I always have appreciated when someone gives me a little incentive for behaving, HA!

have a wonderful fun week! living without ziplocs…. there was a recent article in sunset magazine (i think) where one family lives without ANY trash at all!! nothing comes into the house that will produce trash. it was inspiring! and truly makes you think about your carbon footprint. pam

Just wash zip locks. I do it regularly. Works best on the freezer bags. Only problem with cloth bags is they do not keep crisp snacks fresh, even it they are lined.
