esterday I attempted phase one of organizing and styling our living room. I’ll admit the current organizational state of our living room is the antithesis of the picture above. Right now it looks more like a space designed by Red Foxx on Sanford and Son. Anyone old enough to remember that show?! If not, here’s a sample.
When I’ve completed phase two, I’ll have to post a before and after. That is if I build up enough courage to show you the before shots, because they’re pretty scary. Since our rental home is a very temporary space for us, I’ve been a little more laid back about feathering the nest.
I know this is an oldie from Domino, and I’ve published it before, but I just never tire of the aesthetic of this room.
Love all of these clean looks. But do they look like they could happily house four kiddos plus a cuddly cat and chummy canine? Hmmm, maybe if we toss in a few G.I. Joes, a dozen Polly Pockets scattered across the floor, puppy toys and some spilled juice on the carpet. I’m sure I can count on our brood to help with that part of the styling : )
This next room is from the home of interior designer Sharon Mimran. She nailed the perfect mixture of glamour and sass. Herringbone floors, subtle stripes and zebra?!? Delish. This space is actually a former entry which Sharon turned into her living room. Heritage restrictions prevented her from sealing off the door, so she just used it as a place to park some of her art.
It’s stormy and raining today so I’m skipping my daily trip to the barn and moving ahead with my Operation Organize home project. Hope to share pics with you soon!

Bah! I seriously doubt any part of the house looks like Sanford & Son – but I know the feeling! I found that hilarious because I often tease the hubby that “his” garage definatly looks like a collection from Sanford & Son – good laugh and some beautiful pix on a rainy day! Thx for the smile!
Herringbone floors make me all goose-bumpy.
I wish I could pull them off in this house.
Your aesthetic is lovely. xoxo
LOVE Sanford & Son!! Such a classic. The spaces are gorgeous and I’m sure your space will be just as beautiful. Can’t wait for a peak…
I’m sure your space will be gorgeous…if not already! Happy organizing! We’re trying to do the same thing. Love the zebra ottoman/bench.
Thanks for reminding me about my age…40 in a couple of weeks! Sanford and Son is my theme song I belt out on the way home from a “vintage” find:)
How long will you be in the rental? Were the S L photos taken there or in your own home?
my heart, my heart….
Hi Janette,
Our rental is short term and the Southern Living shoot is from our personal home.

Love it when things are organized. I keep filling bag after bag of outgrown winter clothes and knick knacks I no longer need or want.
And….I forgot to answer a question a while back. I live about 1.5 hours from E&J – definitely must meet if you make it up to this area!!! :)
xoxo
Must be the weather … I just came in from moving all the furniture (except bed) from our spare room and switched it with furniture in the living room … I needed more WHITE today. Who knows how I’ll feel about it tomorrow … but today it works
So I had to laugh when I came in to take a break and read your post – Wednesday ‘white-ish’ … that is what I could call my afternoon ;)
I love those warm, wood herringbone floors withe the stark black and white in the last picture. And what you said about renting and life with kids couldn’t be more true…

Not for one minute do I think that your rental home has looked anything less than perfect. I would hope that you weren’t living in a ‘show home’ anyway – how boring would that be! But I still can’t wait to see the before and after photos. I hope you are well and taking time for yourself in between horses and organising!
Laughing over your Sanford & Son reference. I so remember this show and I guess I’m aging myself here too! From what I’ve seen of your home, it is pure perfection. xo
Love that first photo. Swoon, that chair!
