fresh fragrance

Last week, reader Laura reached out with this question:

Hi Seleta, I’m writing you this morning to see if you might have a suggestion for me.  Do you have any favorite fragrances?  I have been trying to switch up mine.  I always wear the same perfume (for years…I’m ashamed to admit), and sometimes I just really want a nice, light scent to wear.  I’ve tried experimenting, but so far the ones I’ve tried are way to floral smelling or too sweet.  Do you have any suggestions for a nice, light fragrance for spring/summer?

Thanks for asking, Laura.  Let me first admit that I am picky, picky picky about perfumes and am so with you on avoiding scents that are too sweet.  I think I may have the perfect fragrance for you to try – it happens to be my all time favorite.

Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey

I’ve been wearing this lovely, light floral scent for many moons.  The blend is white lily, lotus and freesia.  What I like about this fragrance is that it’s a modern floral and not too sappy sweet or heavy. It’s light enough to wear to a spring picnic yet elegant enough to compliment an evening in pearls at the ballet.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked “what kind of perfume are you wearing?” I give all the credit to Issey.

When I made my rounds to the Saks perfume counter at Phipps, I learned that Issey recently introduced a new version to the classic L’eau D’Issey.  They were kind enough to share a cute little sample spray bottle for me to try out.  It’s a mandarin, lily, rose, musk and white wood blend.  I’ve enjoyed it for a change here and there.  It’s less woodsy than the original, the slightest bit sweeter and a little more flirty.  Perfect for spring.  I think I may invest in a bottle of this one too.

So give L’eau D’Issey a try.  You can pick it up just about anywhere in stores and online!

I absolutely love this scent, and have never met anyone else who has even heard of it! I got a bottle once in a gift bag at an event and have been hooked ever since.

Glad to see you love it as well.

I will have to try this. I’m not one for heavy perfumes and this sounds like a nice light scent. Maybe I’ll treat myself to a new bottle of perfume this weekend. Happy weekend, Seleta.

I have been wearing Marc Jacobs for ages. I first started on Daisy but now the Marc Jacobs is my favourite. I can’t see me changing perfumes for a long time.

I have been wearing this for years also. My boyfriend (husband now) picked it out for me about 12 years ago. It’s still my all time favorite! Looking forward to trying the new scent.

I am going to check this out! It sounds lovely and right up my alley. I don’t wear perfume often because I have trouble finding one that isn’t too strong,

For years I used the Vetiver body cream from Takashimaya (a very clean smell)and then spritzed myself with Burbury. Received a lot of compliments on that. It was my own blend. Unforturnately, Takashimaya has closed it’s store and I have had to find other creams that contain vetiver on the internet. Found one but not quite the same.

Burbury by itself is quite nice too and not overpowering.

Good suggestions here and like most, I like to try new scents. I am more of a soapy-fresh-clean scent person and like the “fresh” series and Lacoste perfumes. Trussardi
has a “Donna fresh” eau de cologne that smells like fresh linen hung out in the sun – so light and summery, but very hard to get (it’s officially discontinued) …. Bulgari “green tea” has also a fresh clean scent.

I have always loved Issey perfumes and they remind me of college (since that is where I started wearing them).
