horse heaven [part two]

Picking back up where we left off in this previous post, here is the fabulous Cameron Oaks Farm historic cabin I wanted to share with you.  I was lucky enough to spend one night there when I dropped my little one off for horse camp.  It was dreamy.  Here’s a shot of the front.

The back.

The view from just about every room.

This cabin was built in 1812 and is positioned on 50 lush acres of soft rolling hills and a bountiful fish pond.  When you’re there, all of your troubles and cares seem to drift away with the sweet breeze.  Can you feel your blood pressure dropping already? Can’t decide if it’s the abundance of nature, the flower gardens, the friendly fur welcome committee or just the pure and simple charm of the cabin.  Susie has done an amazing job designing the landscaping, preserving the historic features and even adding perks such as modern day plumbing ; )

Details…

The red front door is ridiculously fabulous.

One of the two upstairs bedrooms.

That would be the original wood burning stove in the kitchen.  And it still works!  Talk about a perfect place to warm your cold toes on a chilly winter morn.

Below is the room I slept in.  I was getting all settled in at about 10pm when Susie sent me a text asking, “have you met the house ghost yet?” I went from confident 30-something to scared little girl.  I scurried from room to room in my slippers, spooking myself and releasing a high pitched squeal whenever I thought someone might be peering over my shoulder.  One thing you have to know is this cabin is BIG.  Therefore very intimidating if you’re alone in the dark in the middle of 50 acres of woods.  I called Peter and made him talk to me while I tip toed from one room to the next turning off the lights and tucking into bed.  Of course there was no ghost, but the idea sent shivers up my spine. We all laughed about it the next morning.

The next morning I awoke to the glorious chirps and songs of what must of been hundreds of birds. Coffee sippage occurred in this lovely spot on the back porch.  My view was countless hardwoods poised around a glassy pond and powder blue sky.

This was my second favorite place.  A lovely flower garden gracefully huddled next to the house.

The most heavenly little garden shed draped in green – also 200 years old.

Just outside the gardens and picket fences roamed happy horses, giddy goats, precious ponies, pot belly pigs and even chickens!  Look who mozied over to greet me over a cup of joe…

I couldn’t resist surrendering a handful of apples in exchange for some nuzzles and friendly neighs.

Why didn’t I get a shot of the baby cow that Susie recently rescued?!?  He’s so small that they still have to feed him from a bottle.  I got so carried away with his cuteness I didn’t even think to take his picture. I’ll get a shot of him next time.

They have ponies for days…these two tinies are the barn’s therapy ponies.  They have about five acres to roam but choose to stay up close to people and  their farm friends.

Don’t let the horns fool you.  These guys are super docile and friendly.

Another one of Susie’s barns.  This one is actually next to her home across the street from the farm.  I love the symmetry.

It was hard to leave such a beautiful place, but I was starting to miss my three other munchkins and hubby back home.  Plus my brave little camper was in good hands for her big week.  Can’t wait to come back with the whole gang – hopefully in the Fall.

In case a few of you inquire, Susie does rent her cabin out for events, weekends or however long you’d like to visit.  Her cabin has also hosted its share of blushing brides and weddings [see a few pics here].  If you’d like more info you can check her cabin rates over here.
