Last week I had the pleasure of actually reading a magazine while my children had haircuts. It was a complete luxury to sit there uninterrupted for a solid 30 minutes. No texts, no emails, no phone ringing and no little voices asking me questions every 27 seconds. Ahhhh. Surprised I didn’t fall asleep in the chair – that’s what I usually do when I try reading a book in bed at night.
As I was reading, I found good news for those of us who still mourn the loss of our favorite shade of lipstick that’s been discontinued. For me, it’s Totally Tawny by Lancome. It’s a perfect deep apricot shade with a tiny hint of coral, a great earthy tone with some punch. Still haven’t forgiven them for discontinuing that without warning.
So I read (I think it was Style magazine?) that there is a website that will recreate your lipstick and ship it to you. It’s called Three Custom. All you do is to send them a small sample of what you have left and voila you have your lipstick back in your life in 2 short weeks. The only catch is that it’s 60 bucks. Hmmm, how much do I truly love Totally Tawny?? Not sure if I’ll pull the trigger, but I wanted to be sure and share that source with you. Their site is over here.
Speaking of lovely lips, I also wanted to share this helpful tutorial I saw on how to apply your lipstick and make it last. It gives you a step-by-step how to apply a base, a liner and then your lipstick. Tutorial is here. This is exactly what I used to do when I worked in Television. Matter of fact, I still apply lipstick this way if I’m going to an event or party and need my lips “on” for at least three hours. I also use this technique for my TV spots at ABC in Birmingham. Works like a charm.
A good lipstick makes you feel like you can conquer the world. Okay, maybe not so much the world, but at least the day.

Totally Tawny was my favorite! So so disappointed when it was discontinued. Have you found anything close in coloring to it, Seleta?
Loved Totally Tawny. Can’t find anything close to it. And its alot harder than it seems to find that right one
Hi Seleta. I’ve been a longtime reader, but never commented before. I have to tell you that I have used 3Custom for years (maybe 10 years).
After my two favorite Aveda lipsticks were changed, I sent the ones I had into 3Custom. It was completely worth it. The initial price is tough, but once they have the formulation you and everyone else in the world can order it. You just reorder by the original brand name and color name. (My two colors are Aveda Bixa and Annato). The quality is great, and they really do get the color almost exactly identical.
I even had them create gloss versions of the two colors, which were never available through Aveda, so now I have 4 lipstick colors that I will use forever.
They are amazing, so go ahead and take the plunge. I’ve been meaning to write a post about them on my own blog, but haven’t done it yet. As I said before, it was so worth it!

Great idea on both the application technique and where to order replicas. Most of all, I love that photo, it makes me feel girly and wonderful just looking at it!
Chanel’s Deuville is a great color!:)
