fabulous friday

Pip and I took a stroll to one of my favorite boutiques here…it’s called Perspicacity.  I thought you’d enjoy a little walking tour as we chat about the giveaway…

IMG_2500

Perspicacity is in the town of Seaside and perched right by the gulf…you can hear the swoosh of breaking waves as you shop.  I have to say it’s quite a relaxing ambience and puts you in the mood for beachy duds.  It’s  a must-visit if you ever make your way down to our area.  Husbands like it too because they can quietly escape walk six feet in any direction to grab a drink, a bite or just hit the beach.

IMG_2652

The way they set up their store is pretty cool…and organized.  It’s sorted by color in these sassy little bungalows.  In the summertime it’s great because you go into each room and feel a reprieve from the heat with the whirling fans.  Their dressing rooms are air conditioned and ice cold, which is literally a breath of fresh air when it’s a boiling 102 degrees outside and your make-up is melting right off your face.

Fashion Factoid:  Perspicacity creator and co-founder of Seaside, Daryl Davis, originally started this biz as a farm fresh produce stand.  After customers continued to ask her about the clothes she was wearing, she decided to carry a few cotton items for sale.  Every piece always sold out.  Twenty-five years later it’s still the perfect spot to find relaxed beachwear with a bohemian twist.

Of the vignettes, you can probably guess which colors were my fave.

IMG_2571

And yes, there are several white-inspired rooms.

IMG_2576

IMG_2575

Love the detail on the bottom of this dress.

IMG_2573

Their clothes last forever.  I actually bought a pair of butter-soft low rise khakis from them six years ago and wear them to this day!  Wore them this week with a fitted tee and ikat scarf.

They also have plenty of jewels, many of which are hand-made by local artists.

IMG_2583

IMG_2587

and shoes…Tom’s, Fryes, and many more.  All the good stuff.

I love these dandies.

IMG_2580

I also fell for many of their other goodies, such as this cane clutch with playful metallic pops peeking through.

IMG_2382

Their hats are amazing.  This one had my full attention.  I actually love the whole palette with the soft greys, stripes and paisley.

IMG_2364

This would go with everything.

IMG_2335

And then, sitting tall on a pedestal in the shoe room…I found the PERFECT sun hat.  It’s classic, chic and forever in style.  So Audrey Hepburn.

IMG_2408

Perspicacity was kind enough to let me select this hat as the winner’s gift!

IMG_2409

It’s beautiful from all angles.  And quite comfortable on, not the least bit stiff or awkward.  I had to hang on to it because the wind was pretty fierce that afternoon.  The small bow in the back makes it.  This would even look great hanging on a wall!  I recently moved all of our straw hats to one one wall in our entry.

IMG_2496

So if you’d like a chance to win this lovely, ladylike sunhat, leave us a comment.

One item I must have is a classic oxford shirt in white.
I think it is a classic and if you size up it can look very hip worn over a suit and provides nice coverage. I also have a beach straw bag at the ready, sunscreen, lip protection, a good read and water.

My one must have item is my favorite sundress. Perfect for a cover up but also for lunch or lounging. Great giveaway! I will always remember those mermaids greeting you at the entrance to Perscipacity because my youngest climbed right up and gave them smooches. Haha!!

I’m dying! I tried on a similar hat a boutique here in Memphis a year ago. I didn’t buy it and OF COURSE when I returned it was gone! Crossing my fingers for this one–what a lovely giveaway.

My must have beach item is an oversized men’s oxford. I love the feeling of the warm sun on my skin, but sometimes you just want to hide and an old dress shirt provides the perfect coverage!

  16. 16
    missi March 9, 2012

I have a white knee length skirt that is light and flowy.

    Jill March 9, 2012

A sunhat, of course! My mother makes everyone wear a hat in the sun. She is the queen of sunhats! Walkers along the beach have even asked to photograph her in her favorite humongous stand-out hat. It’s nice that the old hat was captured for posterity, because no one knows what has become of it! I would love to see my mom in this stunning hat from Perspicacity. There’s no telling how many photographers she would have to accommodate!

  19. 19
    Andrea C March 9, 2012

Sunscreen is number one. I love hats with a wide brim or those $2 baseball caps from Target that I wear in the pool as well as at the beach (they provide face protection while in the water). I don’t feel bad when it needs to be tossed at the end of the season due to fading..or shrinkage when you get dunked!

  20. 20
    Christina March 9, 2012

Every summer, my girl friends and I hit a different beach spot to sit and laugh and drink and nap. We pack big, floppy hats that would normally embarrass our husbands. I pack a HUGE straw hat, and a fedora, so I don’t have to worry about fixing my hair.

  21. 21
    Sondra March 9, 2012

A fun sundress and flip-flops. Love Seaside, we can’t wait to get back there this summer so I would be thrilled to win the hat!

  22. 22

    Danielle March 9, 2012

I have a white bathing suit cover-up that has become my go-to accessory for beach going days. Ah, just thinking of the waves crashing on the shore makes me melt into relaxation! Love Seaside and this cute little shop. I guess I’ve never tried anything on though because I sure didn’t know about the air conditioning! All I remember are their enormous fans because my son practically blew away when he stood in front of it (:

  53. 53
    Lauren March 9, 2012

I always pack a few colorful sarongs. They can be used as blankets on the beach, and also make delightful cover-ups for strolling in beach side shops.

I am leaving for a vacation this Sunday and my must have is a soft sheer cotton tunic with great cotton embroidery at neck and cap sleeves.

  57. 57
    Jane March 9, 2012

I like to pack up three generations of my family into cars and all head to the beach together. I saw the sun hat in your give away and knew I had to post a comment about my mother and her fabulous – but sadly missing – sun hat. I was reading through other posts and couldn’t believe another poster had a story similar to mine…until I discovered it was my sister, Jill! This hat would be a wonderful replacement for my mother’s old hat – and add one more story to many family tales from trips to the beach!

  58. 58
    Emily R. March 9, 2012

Don’t get me wrong… I love a cute two piece, hot sunglasses, and the latest trendy cover-up but at the end of the day we have to protect our skin!

Although, I could see this hat being the perfect addition to my weekend getaway.

  78. 78
    Kristinabeachmamato2 March 9, 2012

I alsways make sure to pack a little extra space into my suitcase for a wardrobe purchase that I get when I am at the beach. That way I can bring the beach wardrobe home with me.
