a proper fourth

I’m sure many of you are gearing up to hit the road to celebrate the fourth of July.  It’s the busiest holiday here at our beaches.  Many locals in our town high-tail during that week in order to avoid the heat, crowds, and sheer madness that comes with this holiday.  We usually brave it and stay – the kids love the fireworks show on the beach.  It’s hard to beat.  Hoping to have our boat down here by then.  It’s still in Atlanta since our mechanic had to do some extra tuning.  Fingers crossed!

Can’t think of a better way to spend the fourth of July other than a swanky picnic under the sun or stars.

I would say picnics are one of the things in life that make me feel the happiest. Finger sandwiches, perfect little plates, champagne and caviar or tea and cakes…all the ingredients that shoot my serotonin levels over the moon.  And here’s a confession:  I’m totally obsessed with picnic baskets.  No, I’m not kidding.  I literally surf websites on the hunt for chic, gourmet picnic baskets.  Haven’t bought one yet, but I look all the time.  I know, that’s weird.  This one looks adorable for a cozy July 4th picnic.  Great price.

A perfect spot to rinse after a leisurely day picnicking and boating.

Or just chill by the pool.  Ralph Lauren’s home.

What are your plans for the fourth?  Are you traveling?  Headed to the beach?  Grilling out with friends or family?  I’d love to know.

Hey Seleta is it already time to start decorating for the 4 th? Love your pics. Time to pull out the red white and blue. This year I’d love to see the fireworks in Camden, Maine. They are equally fun to watch from the town park and from boats off shore. It’s quite magestic !

  2. Cindy says:

Can’t wait to experience the craziness that is your town during the Fourth!!! I am trading one crazy beach town for another. Call me insane?

  3. Janice says:

We’re heading out for Rosemary Beach – busy, fun time! The fireworks all along 30-A are amazing! Can’t wait!

  4. Kate says:

Seleta nice post. We love the 4th. We are having a boat parade in Ft. Lauderdale. Come see it.

  5. Pam says:

Our daughter, Lauryn, turns 1 on the 4th this year! We live in Ontario, so she is Canadian, but her father is American…she was due on July 1st (Canada Day) but decided to hold out for her Daddy’s home country and arrived on the 4th last year…so we will be celebrating, red, white and blue style this year!! Family coming up from the states and local friends as well… back yard party with pulled pork, coleslaw, potato salad and other goodies…looking forward to it!

  6. Aunt Pat says:

Love those old Chris Crafts! that’s what we grew up with.

  7. Hope says:

I have this exact basket and use it for picnics during the Baldwin Pops concerts overlooking Mobile Bay. This fourth, we will be closer to your area in Mexico Beach!

    Happy fourth to you!

  8. Alana says:

We will be on our sailboat for the day.
Will definitely picnic and then anchor and watch
    the fireworks from the water.
Just have to say that some of the pics you have
posted lately remind me so much of Nantucket.
One of my favorite places! Seleta you would love
    it there.
Happy 4th to you and your gang.

  9. Katie says:

The Fourth is easily one of our favorite holidays! Height of summer… I’m due on the 5th, so I’m sure I’ll be propped up somewhere with a fan, though I WISH I would be out on a boat in the middle of some water!

As for picnic baskets … I got the Longaberger large picnic basket for our 5th anniversary (wood … is that a stretch?? ;o) and haul it everywhere! Picnics, church potlucks, if I’m taking dinner to anyone … literally everywhere. I picked out the solid black liner for it. Perfect basket!

  10. Portia says:

Our 4th of July will be overlooking the beach in Malibu from a friend’s house on a cliff overlooking the sea. We enjoy wearing patriotic colors and adorning our banquet table and house with the red, white and blue. Those classic wooden ski boats are awesome. Would love to own one someday.

  11. karen state says:

Happy 4th! We are heading to Lake Placid as we annually spend the holiday there. Home to both the 1932 & 1980 Olympics….lots of great history, pretty sunsets & yummy food in this quaint tiny town! xo

  12. Julie L. says:

Too funny, I am obsessed with picnic baskets as well. I have a 4th of July blog post going up Monday morning, and I feature my all time favorite Williams-Sonoma picnic basket. Next week, whether the Londen-ers like it or not, my girlfriends and I are off to Hyde Park to picnic “American Style “. Despite the fact no one here cares about our Independence Day we are going ALL IN! (PS: hope the boat makes it from ATL) xx, J
