DIY hydrangea pouf

One of the most beautiful parts of summertime is the hydrangeas in bloom everywhere – they could be the official flower of the South.  And what better way to add beauty to your home, than a simple arrangement made from fluffy, lovely, hydrangeas.  They’re one of my favorite flowers!  Today I’m going to show you how to create the perfect hydrangea arrangement, with help from friend Melanie of Bella Flora.  You may recall this Pizitz party which Melanie and I took part in a few months ago – we demonstrated different ways to style your table for entertaining.

One of the arrangements we discussed is the Hydrangea Pouf, cleverly named by Melanie.  We used this fabulous container from Pizitz.  It is SUCH an easy look to create and takes no time at all.  This little guy looks good pretty much everywhere – and I have had it everywhere in our house.  I really love it on my nightstand.

The beauty of this arrangement is it literally takes seconds, yet it looks super chic and mod.  My kind of project!  The key is using an amazing container and a few snips of green to offset your hydrangea.  Here’s how to make it.

step by step hydrangea

1.  First snip your hydrangea to properly fit in the container.  We chose this beautiful Pizitz vase for a pop of aqua.  Also comes in white here.  We like this container because it adds a modern edge to the traditional look of the hydrangea.

2.  Next gather and place your greenery.  You don’t have to be precise with arranging, just place it loosely because the hydrangea will serve as your anchor.  In this arrangement Melanie used seeded eucalyptus and lemon leaf.  In my nightstand shot she used bupleurum, another pretty green.

3.  Place your hydrangea right smack in the middle of the greens.  You might have to adjust your hydrangea stem length once more to get a precise length.

4.  Place in your favorite spot and enjoy!  Told you this was easy.  Get ready for plenty of compliments for your magical flower styling skills ; )

Big thanks to Melanie of Bella Flora for sharing her talent, and Pizitz for helping out with this fun project.  You can see more pics of our styling from the Pizitz party on their blog over here.

It’s all about texture! I do the same with my magnolias and English ivy…or geraniums and carolina jasmine.

I adore hydrangeas. we finally have an Endless Summer blue variety that winters over in MN. Hydrangeas are luxe and blousy at the same time.

I have a bouquet of dried hydrangeas a friend gave me three years ago. I’m not sure if any flower dries better! Thanks for the tutorial.

Oh my gosh, hydrangeas are just my favorite. The ones in my yard are huge, blue baseballs just in time to throw a boy baby shower next week! I will definitely use this tutorial! Thanks for sharing!
