my new favorite dress + boston

You know how I love to share with you anything special I find – be it in design or fashion.  This time I’m sharing something pretty that my husband found and sweetly gave me as a birthday gift in July.  It’s this dress under $100 (not sponsored) and today it’s on sale!!  It’s hard to pick out clothes for yourself, much less someone else, but somehow Peter hit the nail on the head.

Also a reminder that I’m not a fashion blogger…so this post is a bit of a stretch for me.  But it seemed  fun to snap some phone pics wearing my new dress on our annual Boston trip sans kids.  Here we go!

tote (old similar here)  / heels (old similar options here) / necklace vintage

I wore this dress on a Sunday – was able to dress it up with long pearls and heels for church in the morning and simplify accessories later for a picnic in the park.  When we walked from church, I popped my heels in my tote and threw on my favorite flats, which I shared with you over in this post.

What I love about this dress: the colors, the fabric, and the nice A-line cut, which is flattering for any figure.  YES the dress has pockets!!  I’m wearing a size XS.

The material is a nubby kind of cotton, reminiscent of those famous Chanel suits we’ve seen Jackie wear in years past.  So classic.  This dress is soft, not scratchy.  Also love the color combo of pale blue mixed with berry pinks – pink is a color I always shy away from, so there’s another benefit of Peter picking something out instead of me.  I tend to be so conservative that sometimes that I limit my colors too much.

Later on we enjoyed a sunset picnic in The Common, which is our annual tradition.  Yes, we’re using our soft travel blanket that I blogged about here.

The dress was soooooo comfy.

We met the craziest, bravest squirrel ever.  I LOVED this squirrel.  He was more afraid of Peter than me – maybe Peter looked bigger and more predator-like to a small creature??  This little guy kept coming up to me from behind hoping I would share.  We actually had contact a few times when he yanked the morsels from my hand, that scared me a little.  This guy was so fat from being fed by people and rather picky about which treats he accepted.  He went “nuts” over the pecans from my salad.  Ba-dump bump.

We had such a great time in Boston.  It’s the one big trip where we can celebrate our anniversary in April, Peter’s birthday in May, and my birthday in July.  It’s really relaxing to take time away from kids and being a parent 24/7 – especially now that we have three out of four kids in the teen years all under one roof, whew.  When you get the chance to spend extended time with your spouse without kids, you’re instantly reminded how fun it is to just be “together” and all the special things that made you fall in love with each other.  I wish we could do this once a month.  It would probably add five years to our lives, ha ha.

Let me know if you’d like a Boston post sharing some of the restaurants we hit or where we stayed.  We kept it pretty low key, nothing crazy like trips to the Cape or anything.  We both love the feeling of being in a big city environment and the Back Bay area is our favorite.

Thanks to my husband for another fun adventure together and for picking out such a pretty dress!

I absolutely love your dress, but I was wondering about the tote you were carrying. I am searching for a new tote. Could you share the name of the one that are carrying or if you have any recommendations for other totes.

Hi Johanna! The tote is old from JCrew and has a small gold monogram on one side, which I love. Found an almost identical bag at Madewell and linked it for you under one of the pics. It even has the monogram option! It’s probably the same bag, since they are sister companies.

    Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, a beautiful dress and fun trip. I’m checking but I’m sure that dress will sell out fast!!!! Did you ride a Swan Boat?

I would love to hear more about your Boston trip. I was there two years ago and love the city. In fact my son is going in September with his girlfriend and they’ve asked for restaurant suggestions.

Love the dress, love that you two honor the marriage and love Boston! For those interested in a well made tote with lots of options, try Barrington, out of Dallas. I have the axis deer tote and love it! Very reasonable and family owned.

Show us where you stayed and ate. Pics are a bonus. I love a good hotel room. Glad you had a good time.
