3 winter travel essentials

Hello and Happy 2018!  How were your holidays?  Ours were really special this year.  We did something we’ve never done before – took the kids on their first trip to New York City!  This was an adventure we all loved and will never forget.  The weather was 10-20 degrees every day, so that part was a shocker – we really had to bundle up.  I tip my hat those of you in the cold states – I can only imagine how brutal it is to endure a bitter-cold winter!

Instead of posting tons of pics, I decided to invest my time in creating a photo album our family could enjoy as a memento.  Looking through a photo album with loved ones and remembering experiences is truly a lost art, and one I hope to keep alive in our family.

More on New York later, but first a few critical travel essentials I really loved over the last week that you might like for yourself.  The first one you might have to act fast, as it’s on mega sale…

1. A versatile jacket.  I found this adorable jacket in New York on clearance (with an extra 40% off).  I know, so trite that I went to Anthro in NYC, but the big time stores were way too pricey.  Anyway, this jacket is so soft, super warm, and goes with almost anything.  I’ve been wearing it nonstop – LOVE it so much!  I never spotted it in any other Anthro and somehow it’s still online – maybe because the photo isn’t too appealing?  Don’t worry it doesn’t look like this pic in person – it’s way cuter!  I wore this over a fitted black turtleneck, leggings, and boots for our flight back and had several ladies at the airport ask me about it…I even got the “mom, your outfit is so cute” blessing from my 16 year-old before we left.  Hello.

A few things about the fit:  The fit is more loose and modern than the product photo.  Here I am in my carpool mom look earlier this morning.  I have on a chunky, oversized, long turtleneck sweatshirt and thermals under my leggings…and the jacket is still cute.

And early this morning at 29 degrees in my pre make-up state…don’t judge, ha.

This jacket is super soft, warm, and the material is stretchy.  I’m planning to wear it the rest of winter – especially over my ballet gear and leggings to and from class.  This jacket would also be great over a fitted turtleneck or loose sweater, jeans, and over-the-knee boots or even with a dress.  Totally versatile.  I bought a petite XS (I’m a little over 5’5″ and it runs on the larger side).

2.  Tea packets.  I always love discovering new tea brands during travel.  I’m such a sucker for hot tea on a cold day, especially before hopping on a plane.  I usually drink a large glass of water before enjoying a cup of hot tea so I don’t get too dehydrated.  LOVED this Organic Royal Passion Fruit tea – the flavor was smooth and tasty.  If a cup of tea can be magical, this one sure is.  It didn’t taste bitter, but had a floral hint and was so good.  Found this flavor online over here, but looks like you have to order a quite a large amount.

I did see this fun sample packet (30 tea bags) for $29 – it’s loaded with various flavors including the Royal Passion Fruit above.  I didn’t get to try the other flavors, but they all look amazing.  This 30 bag sample packet is over here.

I love that it’s actual whole leaf tea in pretty little sachets, which is the best.

3.  Soft, comfy thermals.  Not glamorous I know, but crucial.  The first thing our tropical-blooded family needed upon arrival in New York was thermals for all of us.  The wind was way too cold with all of the walking we planned to do.  Thankfully we found the softest thermals for all of us for an amazing price down the street from our hotel at Uniqlo.  Life saver!  The girls and I ended up getting this scoop neck top and these leggings – LOVE these.  Youngest daughter and I got the dark grey and oldest daughter got the red, which was super cute.  My husband and son got the boy version in dark grey and black and loved them as well.  One of the days we walked over seven miles all over the city in 20 degrees (with several stops in warm stores and restaurants) and these thermals truly saved us.  I had just come from a ballet class, so I was still in thermals and leggings.

Hope your week is off to a good start.  I know the first day back with work and kids in school is pretty tough…but we’re only one day from the weekend!  Woo hoo!!

Happy New Year and thank you for the continued support of the blog.  Sending you warm wishes for  health, happiness, love, and God’s abundance in 2018!

Love uniqlo! I bought a uniqlo down jacket in NYC years ago (recently discovered there is now a store in Orlando). It is lightweight and perfect for some of the cooler temps we get in the south. It’s great for traveling too, rolls up into a small pouch you can pack away in your luggage or carry-on bag. Your posts are inspiring; you have a wonderful perspective on life, family and faith. Thank you.

And the hats? Searching for one for my daughter! Thank you!
