around town

March 20th officially marks the first day of spring.  And I can tell you that spring is in full force down here.  These days we beach dwellers are relishing the gift of mild 70 degree days before that lead weight drops and we’re melting in a humid 95 degrees by sunrise.

I had a business meeting in Seaside early on Friday morning, so once I finished I took a little stroll to stop and smell the roses.  Thought I’d snap a few pics with my cell phone to share with you.

Love these X’s.

Spotting these blue hydrangeas were sentimental…because around this time some years ago, I carried a hydrangea bridal bouquet down the isle in the Seaside chapel.

I also noticed a new store that popped up in town – almost as quickly as our pretty blooms.  I had to sneak in and check out the cool lighting and architectural details…

In our town, the beach is right beside all of these amazing shops.  And that day our gulf was proudly boasting its majestic blue green tones.

Right by the beach is one of my favorite boutiques Deja Vu, owned by my friend, Stephanie.  You may remember her interview and fiercely chic store in this previous post.  That girl is crazy talented.  She designs a clothing line called Judith March – check it out on my sidebar to the right.

While in Seaside, I obviously had to stop in and check some of Deja Vu’s pretties.  How can you not stop in a store like this on the beach?!?

Fell in love with this dress and the pearls.

These were cuties too.  I highly recommend checking out Deja Vu’s website.  The reasonable prices will shock you (in a good way).  And if you see something you like here but don’t see it on their site, you can give them a holla at 850-534-0710.  Hint hint: that killer bumble bee necklace on the dress to the right.

Sadly I ran out of time because I had another appointment follow, but I snapped one last shot of our sky and beach.  Now that the weather is nice I plan to share more shots like these with you : )

green goodness

As a girl who has a little bit o’ Irish in her, I certainly appreciate the merriment of St. Patrick’s Day.  My father’s mother was of Irish decent; her maiden name Sinclair.  Always loved her name.

Growing up, I didn’t get to be with my grandmother nearly as much as I would have liked, but the times I did see her I distinctly remember her being extraordinarily creative – she was always sewing and crocheting beautiful things.  She was first and foremost a proud wife and mother of three; and had a remarkable air of independence about her.

She had beautiful blue eyes that always sparkled when she smiled…

In honor of my grandmother and St. Patty’s Day, here are a few green goodies that bring me a smile.   I’d like to think she would have approved of these as well…

A table filled with wild greens.  Loveliness.

A Celerie Kemble floral that makes my heart skip a beat.

And yet another Celery – this irresistible Celery Cloche crocheted hat is perfect for a chilly spring morning.  They also have beautiful big girl scarves, hats and chic neck warmers right here.

This kid friendly green smoothie looks tempting.  Recipe over here.  And for you extra healthy types, here’s a sweet apple kale smoothie recipe that received great reviews right here.

For something sweet and fizzy, I always enjoy a green izze.  Love the color combo on the packaging.

Someday I hope to travel with our family to Ireland – I’m told it’s one of the most amazing places in the world to ride.

Try not to get pinched today.

I’d love to hear about your Irish roots or even something green that you love!

monogram made new

Recently I helped a friend spruce up her master bedroom.  She’s on a slim budget and can’t do everything at once, so I helped her map out a design plan she can implement on her own.  When assessing her existing furniture pieces, I noticed she had an antique trunk with a dark brown stain.  It looked tired and sad – so we gave it a face lift!

I designed a mod monogram and had a local artist friend paint it.  I think it turned out super cute!

Nothing says happy and classic like a personalized piece in your bedroom.  Now she has some extra storage plus something pretty to look at!

To help establish continuity with her new color scheme, we used the extra bedroom paint for the monogram and bottom of the trunk.  It’s Raccoon Hollow # 978 by Ben Moore.  Purrrrty.
